I’ve never been the biggest fan of food. It’s always something I’ve been picky about, when my mom’s driving down the highway towards the city and asks, “What do you guys want to eat?”, and I either don’t reply or tell her to choose. The choice never mattered for me, honestly, and it still doesn’t today. Maybe for nutritional purposes, but once again, I’m not big on counting calories. Food does, however, matter to me in one way: socially.
Communion is a huge part of the Christian religion, which is a symbol of the last supper, when Jesus revealed that he would be betrayed by one of his own. In partaking of bread and wine together, they did something more than eat for hunger or nourishment, but for a symbolic social purpose. Communion doesn’t have to be religious though, as my friends and I typically eat together, share what has gone on during our day, and laugh together. It could be a date, dinner, or family meeting, all with one central premise: being together, and eating.
Though my personally eating habits might be lackluster, Food is no doubt important to society and social interaction.
